IHEC chairman:Iraq votes recount impossible

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 09:17 GMT

IHEC chairman Faraj Al Haidari said recounting votes of Iraq Parliamentary elections manually is impossible.
Recounting votes manually would take at least three months, Al Haidari argued.
In an interview with Al Sharq Al Awsat Newspaper, Al Haidari asked political entities doubting electronic count of votes how could they not trust unbiased computer systems and call for manual recount which would be carried out by people of different backgrounds, he wondered.
IHEC work ends when final elections are announced, Al Haidari noted.
Parties calling for manual recount will have to seek new elections, he added.
Asked about the pressure that might result of Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki’s request to recount votes, Al Haidari affirmed that things are not done upon Al Maliki’s wish.
Al Maliki is dealt with as head of a Coalition and not as Prime minister, he argued.

95% vote reported and 91 seats to maliki's bloc and 88 to allawi's bloc. heck malki's bloc was always ahead in the number of seats just not popular vote. geez what a whiny baby he is. i note that the shia are making noises about banning together. also since the americans went for a visit, maliki isn't making as much noise. i think friday will see a final count and then on to the next step.
