BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Deputy Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi issued a travel ban on all officials who have corruption files and cases in the Integrity Commission, the official said on Monday.
"The lack of accountability of officials of all levels by previous governments has created all these crises and the deteriorationof the country economically and security," Hassan al-Juhaishi said in a press statement.
He called on the Prime Minister-designate Adel Abdul-Mahdi to "issue travel-prevention orders to all officials who have files of corruption and issues in the integrity of the Authority if the Authority formally took over," noting that "there are a very large number of files that were neglected because of political pressures."
The new House of Representatives was elected on September 16, 2018 as Mohamed Halboussi as its president. Hassan Karim was elected to the post of first deputy and Bashir Haddad for the second deputy, before Barham Saleh was elected president who appointed Adel Abdul Mahdi to form the new government.
The Prime Minister-designate Adel Abdul-Mahdi negotiations to form the next government before the end of the scheduled period for the submission of his cabinet in (November 2, 2018), at the time political sources announced the request of Abdul Mahdi of the political blocs to nominate four names for each ministry.
The parliamentary elections were held on May 12, 2018 in Baghdad and the provinces amid tight security. The Electoral Commission announced hours later that the participation rate was 44% with the participation of more than 10 million out of the 24 million eligible to participate in the elections.
The results came out of the alliance of Sowron, supported by Muqtada al-Sadr first at the level of the provinces followed by the Fatah Alliance led by Hadi al-Amiri, and then the victory coalition led by Prime Minister Haider Abadi.
The days after the election witnessed a wide debate among the political circles that prompted the House of Representatives to hold a session and vote on the amendment of the election law, including the re-counting and manual counting of the results.
On August 19, 2018, the Federal Supreme Court announced its ratification of the results of the parliamentary elections and the winning candidates, confirming that the decision of ratification was issued by agreement of opinion.
