Iraq Government insists on recounting votes

Iraq Government insists on recounting votes

    Wednesday, March 24, 2010 10:01 GMT

Iraqi Government spokesman Ali Al Dabbagh called the Independent High Electoral Commission not to rush the announcement of final results of Iraq Parliamentary elections until recounting votes manually.
In an interview with Alsumaria News, Al Dabbagh noted that the request of President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nuri Al Maliki is an official request.
Meetings are being held with the United Nations and the US Embassy in this regard, he added.
Iraq’s Government insists on recounting votes manually to ease concern of political parties mainly in debated provinces such as Baghdad, Nineveh and Kirkuk, Al Dabbagh said.
