The United States said on Sunday it was buying 17 percent of Iraqi oil exports, saying it was seeking a reciprocal partnership with Iraq.

The US embassy in Baghdad said that "America buys 17% of Iraqi oil exports," indicating that "exports will not be limited to oil onlyand Iraq to be a regional economic leader again."

She added that "the American Chamber of Commerce came to 50 US companies to the Iraqi market for partnerships and the provision of sophisticated goods," asserting that "America seeks to establish a mutual partnership with Iraq."

The United States has an embassy in Baghdad, which is the largest embassy in the world and consulates in Erbil, Basra and Kirkuk. Iraq has an embassy in Washington and a consulate in Detroit and Los Angeles, and there are about 500,000 people of Iraqi origin in the United States.
