BAGHDAD -

A source in the Central Bank of Iraq, Saturday 16 March 2019, revealed the imposition of the bank and his guardian on two Iranian banks.

The source said in an interview with (Baghdad today) that "the Central Bank of Iraq imposed its guard over the bank of Parishan and Mali Iranwithin special procedures" without giving further details.

The Central Bank of Iraq decided, on 10/8/2018, to prohibit dealing with Iranian banks in US dollar currency after the United States announced the imposition of economic sanctions on Tehran.

The central bank left "the option of dealing in the euro to the requirements of the European Central Bank, and banks dealing in the last currency."

On August 6, 2018, the United States re-imposed wide-ranging sanctions on Iran, which it had suspended earlier, after a comprehensive joint action plan on Iran's nuclear program was reached in 2015.

US President Donald Trump announced in early May Washington's withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran over its nuclear program and later decided to reinstate all sanctions imposed on Tehran, including secondary sanctions, that affect other countries dealing with Iran.
