Former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi's leader Al-Nasr renewed a call on Friday for an interim government led by an independent government to hold early elections.
Abadi said in a statement seen by "Gilgamesh Press": "Without a transition period with specific ceilings, the talk of any road mapprocrastination and procrastination."
He pointed to the need for "a transitional phase led by an independent government, whose primary task is early elections by a fair law and an independent commission in partnership with the United Nations."
He added that "all the tasks of reform of the political system are produced by a new elected government."
Since the beginning of last October, Iraq has witnessed unprecedented protests demanding the departure of the government of Adel Abdul Mahdi, which has been in power for more than a year.
Since then, 335 people have been killed and 15,000 wounded, according to an Anatolian census, based on figures from the Parliamentary Human Rights Commission, the Human Rights Commission (an official parliament), and medical and human rights sources.
The vast majority of the victims are protesters who have clashed with security forces and militants from Shi'ite factions close to Iran.
Protesters initially demanded better services, jobs and corruption, before their demands included the departure of the government and the political elite accused of corruption.
Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi refuses to resign, and requires that political forces agree first on an alternative, warning that the absence of a "smooth and rapid" alternative, will leave the fate of Iraq for the unknown.
