President of the Republic, Barham Salih, stressed the commitment to constitutional timing to choose a prime minister for an interim government.
This came during a meeting with a number of heads of parliamentary blocs in the Peace Palace in Baghdad on Monday.
A statement of his office stated,[where] received a copy of it, that "during the meeting, the political and security conditions in the country were examined, and the importance of adhering to the constitutional timing to resolve the Prime Minister's nomination for an interim government and the necessity of selecting a national character, efficient and satisfactory, from the Iraqi people and capable of Carrying out the required reform entitlements, and he is charged with preparing to conduct fair elections in accordance with an electoral law that guarantees fair representation and free will of the people.
He added, "Emphasis was also placed on rejecting violence, confronting outlaws who target peaceful protests and public security, and emphasizing securing constitutional rights to peaceful demonstrations, expressing opinions and protecting peaceful protesters and public security."
He noted, "Emphasizing the follow-up of the security services to protect activists from kidnappings and intimidation by criminal gangs, and to work to support the state and its institutions to enforce the rule of law."
