Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, MP Ahmad Mazhar al-Jubouri, affirmed on Wednesday (May 27, 2020) that Gulf countries made offers to dispense with Iranian energy, in exchange for supplying Iraq with that energy.

Al-Jubouri said in an interview with (Baghdad Today), "Several Gulf countries have already made offers to dispense with Iranian energy, but this has not happened officially so far, and it is known that the Minister of Finance's recent visit to some Gulf capitals was to achieve a number of goals, which are Openness to relations, and financial, economic and security coordination. "

He pointed out that "Gulf offers in the field of energy are very tempting, and they are not the result of the moment but for years", stressing that "Saudi Arabia offered to supply Baghdad with electric energy without paying a single cent, but the entry of some regional countries and their confiscation of the Iraqi decision was paid to prevent investment of these offers, To serve the national interest, "he said.

On the comparison between Iranian and Gulf energy prices, Jubouri stressed, "There is no comparison between them, because Gulf is much cheaper, not to mention the facilities granted."

He pointed out that "Aramco and major Saudi companies have already made offers to invest in various fields, including a crutch field in Anbar, west of the country."

The deputy stressed "the necessity of dealing with the investment file in terms of economic returns, and not the interests of other countries. It is not reasonable for the economy to open up to countries whose objectives are to destroy our economy and not to develop it."

It is noteworthy that Iraq imports electrical energy from Iran, which supplies Iraqi electricity lines in order to meet the need of Iraq for that energy, during the hot summer months.

On more than one time, Iraq was granted an exception from the United States of America regarding the import of electrical energy from Iran, and the last exception was granted to Iraq after the assumption of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, where US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the extension of the exception to Iraq for a period of four months.
