President Donald Trump intends to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi at the White House on August 20, the US presidency announced Friday, in reference to an improvement in relations between Baghdad and Washington after months of tension.
"This visit, which will take place on August 20, comes at a crucialstage for the United States and Iraq, while we continue to cooperate in order to permanently defeat ISIS and face the challenges resulting from the spread of the new Corona virus epidemic," the White House said in a statement.
The statement added that "the United States and Iraq, as close partners, are looking forward to expanding relations between them," explaining that they will discuss cooperation in the fields of security, energy and health, as quoted by "AFP."
The MP for the Wisdom Movement, Asaad Al-Morshedy, confirmed Thursday (July 23, 2020) that the visit of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to Washington, DC, will discuss the file of removing the American forces from the country with the American administration.
"The American forces will not leave Iraq this year, and the visit of the prime minister to Washington will discuss several strategic agreements on the US presence in the country," Al-Morshidi said in an interview with him (Baghdad Today).
He added that "there is an Iraqi political wing that openly and secretly rejects the exit of these forces in order to control the regional balance in Iraq," noting that "Washington is looking at the size of the sacrifices of lives and money that it made in Iraq in order to bring down the former regime, so its exit will not be done in this way."
