وكان علاوي قد ابدى ارتياحه الى عمل المفوضية العليا المستقلة للانتخابات، محذرا في الوقت عينه من "عملية تزوير قد تؤدي الى تغيير في النتائج من قبل الحكومة الحالية"،حسب قوله. وقال علاوي في حديث أجرته معه صحيفة "النهار" من بيروت ان "العراقيين في النهاية عرفوا واثبتوا للعالم كيف يقدمون الصورة الايجابية، وتبقى العبرة في اصدار النتائج النهائية في صورة شفافة تليق بابناء العراق". وشدد علاوي على ضرورة ان" تقوم حكومة جديدة تعكس الطيف الوطني العراقي، وان تكون قادرة على تنفيذ القرار وان تمتلك هذه الحكومة المنتظرة الرؤية الواضحة". واضاف أنه "يسعى في مشروعه الى قيام حكومة قوية ذات رؤية واضحة وتؤمن بالمصالحة وتعزل الارهابيين وتسوقهم الى المؤسسات القضائية العادلة"، مشددا على ضرورة "قيام حكومة تضع استراتيجية دفاعية واقتصادية تساهم في حفظ أمن العراق وتطويره ودفعه الى الامام".
