South Korea has transferred three US detainees from jail to a Pyongyang hotel in preparation for their extradition to US President Donald Trump during a summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, South Korean media reported Wednesday.

"They are supposed to have been transferred for handing over to US President Donald Trumpat the upcoming North American-North Korea summit in May," South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted the organization of families of South Koreans abducted by the North as saying.

The agency said that they were housed in a hotel near Pyongyang, where detainees are subjected to medical examination as well as ideological treatment.

Kim Dong-chul, a 2005 intern in international finance and management at Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, was arrested in April last year and his co-worker, Kim Hak Sung, In May 2017. They were charged with engaging in hostile subversive activities.

The three Americans are expected to be released as new developments in relations between the United States and North Korea begin, with the announcement of a historic meeting between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
