"The visit of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to Washington is without benefit," said a member of the al-Fatah alliance, Hassan al-Rashed, adding that Iraq is currently experiencing critical conditions and suffers from a lack of services.

"It is necessary for the prime minister to be at the top of the power pyramid at such a critical time," said Al-Rashed, who serves ascommunications minister in the current government headed by Abadi.

"The visit comes within the pressures exerted by the US administration to form a government in its own accord and in line with its orientation," he said.

Al-Rashed added that "this visit is a message of pressure on the political blocs to choose a particular person for prime minister," saying that this person is not competent and does not apply the terms of reference that I have determined to be brave and firm, "as he put it

It was recently reported that Abadi would visit New York to attend the UN General Assembly.
