President of the Fatah alliance Hadi al-Amiri, on Tuesday morning, withdrew his candidacy for prime minister in the next government.
"Our withdrawal is to make way for others in the recommendations of the religious authority," Amiri told a news conference. "He will remain in the positions of confronting and defendingthe rights of the Iraqi people in the squares of construction as we were in the squares of jihad."
"The Iraqis have stood up against the American pressure and the Gulf money," he said. "We must go to a person we agree on as prime minister to make his mission a success."
Amiri stressed that "there is no choice but to the political process of political consensus and to give priority to the public interest on the private," noting that "the coalition of construction exceeded sectarian trenching and we have an openness to the Kurds."
"There is no constitutional text that the president of the republic is a Kurd, but this is how the political custom has been," he said.
