BAGHDAD, March 20 (KUNA) -- Initial results of the Iraqi parliamentary elections showed that parties of Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and ex-Premier Ayad Allawi were still leading the race.
The Iraqi Higher Elections Commission (IHEC) had recently announced that Allawi's Iraqi List was leading Al-Maliki's State of the Law Coalition by some 8,000 votes, after 92 percent of ballots were counted.
The race between Allawi and Al-Maliki will not be necessarily determined by number of votes. Each of the candidates can have larger number of seats but with fewer number of votes.
Both candidates will be anxiously awaiting the final results to determine who will form the upcoming government. (end) ahh.bs KUNA 210017 Mar 10NNNN
