BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The head of a coalition of state law, Nuri al-Maliki, said he had not sworn in parliament because he was waiting for him to be appointed Vice President Barham Saleh.

Maliki said in a statement to the agency (Sumer News), "It is not a defect in the work in parliament, but I am waiting for brother Barham Saleh to issue a decreeby appointing a deputy."

"Working in parliament is a major responsibility and requires continuous work. We in the state of law are working to strengthen the role of parliament and give it an area of ​​influence to build the Iraqi state."

Nuri al-Maliki, along with Haider al-Abadi and Asad al-Eidani did not lead the constitutional oath as members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
