(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) The Ministry of Electricity, in close proximity to its Kuwaiti counterpart, announced the extension of power transmission towers between the two countries for a distance of 50 km to provide Iraq with more than 200 MW as a first stage.
"The ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with theKuwaiti side during a visit by a Kuwaiti delegation to the province of Basra," said a spokesman for the ministry of electricity, Musab al-Mudar.
He pointed out that "the next near term, will see the extension of the towers of the transfer of energy for a distance of 50 kilometers to connect with the national electricity system," likely to "import more than 200 MW."
"The ministry continues to import energy from Iran by four lines, and Iraq is equipped with a capacity of up to 1200 MW."
He pointed out that "the possibility of importing energy from the Saudi side currently is not available because there are no towers to transfer energy between the two countries and distance distances, especially as the ministry is considering finding immediate solutions and that the project of linking with Saudi Arabia can be done in the long term."
The new project with Kuwait comes at a time when Iran will continue to supply the country with 1200 MW on four connecting lines between the two countries. is over
