"The House of Representatives is in the process of requesting details of the contract between the government and the German company Siemens to develop the electrical network," said the deputy of the new generation opposition bloc, Sarkot Shamsuddin.
"The parliament does not know yet what details of the contract with the German company Siemenssigned between them and the Iraqi government to develop the electric power sector," Shamseddine said in a statement.
He stressed that "the Council is about to request a copy of the contract and the details of the financial and the roadmap that can be applied by the company and how can help the company in the development of this sector."
"He expressed his optimism to contract with Siemens and the future with GE to develop the electric power sector, which has been suffering from a severe shortage since the nineties of the last century, especially that the two companies have a global reputation and great capabilities and possibilities to help Iraq to bring this sector back to where it was in the past, "The importance of contracting with the two companies economically, security and politically."
"If the minister wants to develop the electricity sector in the country and develop it, he has to deal with huge foreign companies even if the country is expensive," Shamsuddin said.
The German company Siemens, announced on May 1 that it signed an agreement with the Iraqi government to implement a road map for energy development, noting that the agreement will include the rehabilitation and modernization of existing stations, and expansion of transmission and distribution networks.
The contract was reportedly worth more than $ 14 billion.
"The roadmap it has presented to the government to re-supply Iraq with electricity consists of short, medium and long-term plans of action designed to meet the country's reconstruction goals and support the country's economic development needs," the company said.
The German company announced, on 29 of last month, the start of work in the implementation of contracts for the first phase of the development of electricity in Iraq, "pointing out that" the goal is to provide energy supplies at reasonable prices without interruption.
