Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein received a phone call from his American counterpart Pompeo on the occasion of his assumption of office as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, wishing him success and success.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed, according to a statement of the ministry, where the agency received a copy, that "Iraq seeks to build balanced relations with all countries of the world, and to adopt the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, respect for the sovereignty of Iraq, realization of common interests, and independence of the Iraqi decision."

Hussein mentioned the upcoming visit of the Prime Minister to Washington if the health conditions allowed it, "stressing the government's insistence on taking future steps to work and proceeding with the success of its government program."

Pompeo, for his part, affirmed that "the United States is happy with the initial results of the strategic dialogue, expressing hope that it will continue for the purpose of completing these dialogues."

He also affirmed the American government’s respect for the sovereignty of Iraq, its support for the government of Mustafa Al-Kazemi, and the provision of economic support, according to the statement.

The two sides agreed on the need to encourage investment in all sectors, including: the oil sector, and infrastructure, and urged investors to work in Iraq.
