media reported that the North Korean leader, Kim Jong - un, executed his Special Envoy to the United States, Kim Hyuk - chul, on the back of its second summit with the failure of US President Donald Trump.

Chosun Ilbo, South Korea's largest newspaper, quoted a well-informed source Friday as saying that the Special Envoy and four other Foreign Ministry officialshad arranged for the second summit held in Hanoi last February. They were executed in March at Merim Airport, In Pyongyang, on charges of spying for the United States.

The source explained that the charge against them states that they "have prepared weak reports on the negotiations, without properly grasping American intentions."

Kim Yong-chul, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the ruling North Korean Workers' Party and responsible for relations with South Korea and the United States, was also subjected to forced labor and "ideological education," the paper said.

There has been no official comment on the issue from the two Koreas or the United States, but Reuters has already quoted a diplomatic source as confirming signs of punishing Kim Hyuk Chul and other officials for the collapse of the summit, including by sending them to a " Rehabilitation ".

The second summit between Kim and Trump failed to reach any agreement over disagreements over the United States' call for nuclear disarmament on the Korean Peninsula and North Korea's demand to lift sanctions.
