Obama stresses US commitment to long-term partnership with Iraq

BAGHDAD, Dec 6 (KUNA) -- Recently elected Iraqi Parliament Speaker Osama Abdulaziz Al-Najafi received on Monday a cable of congratulations from US President Barack Obama, in which the latter praised his leading role in the newly formed Iraqi government and its impact on promoting national unity.
A statement issued by Al-Najafi's office quoted Obama's cable as saying, "the US is committed to a long-term partnership with Iraq, based on friendship, cooperation, and promotion of bilateral relations between the two countries." In November, The Council of Representatives elected the Iraqi National Alliance candidate, Osama Al-Najafi, as the new Speaker, after nearly eight months of disputes and debate over the parliamentary elections.(end) mhg.nfm KUNA 061011 Dec 10NNNN
